One of the newest and most talked-about landmarks in the Dinagat Islands, the People's Hall in Barangay Cuarinta, San Jose, is built to look like the IJN Yamashiro — a Japanese battleship of World War II that sank in the nearby Surigao Strait during the Battle of Surigao Strait in October 1944, one of the largest naval battles in history.
Opened in December 2023, the building houses the Office of the Provincial Governor and displays memorabilia from the Battle of Surigao Strait. It was built as a gesture of gratitude to Japan for its support to the province during the pandemic and after Typhoon Odette in 2021.
Sitting on a plateau with wide views, it has quickly become one of the province's most visited attractions and a great photo stop.
