History

Tubajon was once part of Loreto. During the Second World War, on 30 October 1944, a battle was fought at Sinaungag — the place now called Tubajon[3].

On 21 June 1969, Republic Act No. 5643 created the Municipality of Tubajon from seven barrios of Loreto — San Vicente, Santa Cruz, Roxas, Mabini, Malinao, Navarro and Imelda — with its seat of government at the site of Barrios San Vicente and Santa Cruz[2]. (Loreto's municipal history gives 1971 as the year Tubajon separated[3].) In 2006 Tubajon became one of the seven municipalities of the Province of Dinagat Islands[6].

People and barangays

The population was 3,660 in 1970, 8,276 in 2015 and 8,119 in 2020 — the smallest of the seven towns[1]. The 9 barangays are Diaz, Imelda, Mabini, Malinao, Navarro, Roxas, San Roque, San Vicente and Santa Cruz[1].
